Gucci Timepieces announced their special edition of the U-Play watch in 2010, which has been designed by Creative director Frida Giannini and also a contribution of $70 000 to benefit UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative says guccitimeless.com.

Frida Giannini said that she visited Malawi with UNICEF and saw the difficult situation that children face in sub-Saharan Africa where there are so many children that do not get the opportunity to go to school. She said that she saw how the UNICEF’s Schools for Africa program is successful in providing education for children.

Gucci has had a relationship with UNICEF since 2005 and has committed more than $9 million. Gucci have also consistently supported UNICEF’s life saving treatment, care and prevention programs for orphans and vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa.

The partnership has grown to a focus on education through UNICEF’s Schools for Africa initiative. The program aims to increase access to quality basic education for millions of children in Africa.

The Gucci U-Play watch is aimed at benefiting UNICEF and is available in stores worldwide.

The Gucci and UNICEF Partnership

In 2005 the Gucci and UNICEF partnership began when the company introduced the first annual Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF. The international campaign is the most extensive charitable partnership in Gucci’s history and supports UNICEF programs for orphans and children that have been affected by the HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.

Every year, Gucci has intensified the company’s commitment to UNICEF by expanding the annual campaign and introducing new initiatives to support the partnership.

Gucci has committed over $9 million to UNICEF. This amazing sum shows the increased scale and scope of the company’s support and has resulted in Gucci’s current status as the largest corporate donor to UNICEF’s Schools for Africa program.

The funds donated by Gucci Timepieces will support UNICEF programs in Malawi and Mozambique, where nearly 1 million children have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
