Cartier’s Gentleman Exhibition

The Man by Cartier is an exhibition that recently launched at Harrods with the aim of putting Cartier’s fine watches into the spotlight according to brummellmagazine.co.uk.

The association with Cartier is one of feminine mystique like that of the iconic Panthere which graced the necks and wrists of many 20th century celebrated women, but a new exhibition hopes to put the spotlight onto the male sex.

‘The Man by Cartier’ which is an exhibition held at Harrods until the 19th November shows the French houses commitment to incredible timepieces for men. In store there is a video as well as numerous spaces that have been devoted to watches throughout Cartier’s rich history.

The shift in focus to Cartier men also reflects on the Cartier legacy that was founded by Louis Francois Cartier in 1847 who then entrusted his son Alfred who in turn entrusted his sons Louis, Jacques and Pierre to carry on the legacy.

The exhibition also highlights the masculine legacy of Cartier’s ground breaking designs and creating pieces for explorers, adventures and Kings as they have. King Edward VII was a particular fan and called Cartier, “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers”

Cartier’s brand debut was founded because Alberto Santos-Dumont who was an aviator, he complained to Louis Francois that it was to difficult to tell the time with a pocket watch when in mid-flight. The first wrist watch was then born and thus setting the trend of kitting out the dynamic men of the day with time pieces.

The exhibition honours the tradition with the Calibre de Cartier Diver watch which was the brands first horological deep sea adventure which launched this year. This watch is an authentic diving watch which has been designed to be water resistant up to 300 metres and features a unique coating and rubber strap which serves as protection for the dazzling display, a bold monochrome face in handsome rose gold.

Other timepieces at the exhibition include the sculptural torture watch, the sleek Tank, the complicated Rotonde de Cartier and the beautiful Ballon.
