The Navitimer model is known for the circular slide rule to the bezel of their chronograph models which was added in the 1940s, so that aircraft piolets could use it.

Scott Carpenter approached the company in 1961 with the idea of adding a 24 hour dial instead of the normal 12 hours. As an astronaut, Carpenter said that this was needed so that they could know if it was day or night during space travel.

Breitling produced the 24 hour Navitimer and later made the Cosmonaut Navitimer.

Emergency

The Emergency by Breitling contains a radio transmitter, which is intended for civil aviation use. When the conditions are stable then the signal can be picked up at a range of 90 nautical miles by search aircraft that is flying 20 000 feet.

In 2013 there was a new version of the Emergency watch, where it transmit on the 121.5 MHz frequency, but also on the 406.04 MHz signal which is monitored by satellites. There is a separate battery that can be recharged for the transmitter.
